HORSE SHOW RAISES MONEY FOR CHARITY
(Antioch, IL) Rails, gates, hedges, logs and natural foliage. These will be among the natural obstacles facing a group of extraordinary horses and their top amateur and professional riders at the upcoming International Hunter Derby.  Starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, Annali Farm in Antioch will host this event unique, being called “A Day in the Country,” which will be reminiscent to a fox hut – just without the foxes.

“Just a little over a year ago, a group of Chicago-area women decided to combine their love of horses with their desire to support their favorite charities,” explained Crystal Lake resident Karen Lackinger, one of the founding members and event chair.  Calling themselves Chicago Equestrians for a Cause (CEC), the group draws from the North Shore and greater Chicagoland area. Some ride competitively as amateurs, while others have children who compete and others own winning horses. However, all share a strong love of equestrian events and a desire to raise money for charitable causes.  This event, sanctioned by the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) and sponsored by CN Railroad, will benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Aside from Lackinger, those planning this event include Lake Forest and Lake Bluff residents Margaret Benjamin, Liz Wegbriet, Stephanie Harris, Jane Brenton-Knauer and Jennifer Swift, along with Barrington resident Carol Rolfs, La Fox resident Steve Martinez, Wadsworth resident Deirdre Toner and Wisconsin resident Vicki Vieux. Lackinger added, “In addition to raising money for Children’s Memorial through an exciting event that is different and appeals to all whether or not they are familiar with horses, “We want Chicago included in the excitement of this Derby, a competitive form quickly taking on international prominence in the equestrian world.”

Events and entertainment are being planned to appeal to every age and is open to the public. Individual tickets are $200 each or buy a table for you and your friends for $2,500 (Seats 10); both are available in advance. Food and beverages are included in the price of the ticket. For additional information about this event please call Karen at (815) 546-0100, or Margaret at 847-431-1209.  More information about the International Hunter Derby can by found by visiting the USHJA
